The wolf and the Seven Little Kids
A story by the Brothers Grimm with pictures by Felix Hoffmann

One day, when mother goat was going off to market, she warned her seven little kids to beware of the wolf and his tricks. Before very long, sure enough the wolf came knocking at the door. And alas — though the kids meant to obey their mother — the wolf succeeded in fooling them.

Felix Hoffmann has taken the familiar Grimm story, and with skilled draftsmanship, a sense of humor that never sinks to caricature, and a rich and glowing use of color, he portrays the adventures of the lively little kids and the wicked wolf in a series of lovely pictures that will delight small children.
The Swiss edition of this book was awarded the Jugend-BuchPreis (Youth Book Prize) for 1957. It is a distinguished addition to our literature for children.

FELIX HOFFMANN, lithographer, etcher, woodcutter, and printer — indeed a versatile Swiss artist — has been hailed by European critics for his superb illustrations of children's books.

The wolf and the seven Little Kids, his first book to be published in America, had its beginnings a few years ago when Mr. Hoffmann made sketches of the folk tale to amuse one of his daughters who was ill.

Born in Switzerland in 1911, Mr. Hoffmann studied at art schools in Karlsruhe and Berlin, then settled down in his native village of Aarau. His sketchbooks, full of impressions and ideas for illustrations, reflect his extensive travel. His popularity among both children and grownups reflects the ultimate success of his efforts.
