The Vatican Billions : Two thousand years of wealth accumulation from St. Peter to the Space Age by Avro Manhattan

Aptly described as "a bombshell of a book", The Vatican Billions reveals the facts behind one of the great scandals of our age—the enormous temporal wealth of the Roman Catholic Church, a matter for controversy both within and outside its fold.
Is it true that the Church is the most powerful financial entity of all times? If so, how many thousand millions does it handle? How much real estate? How much in stock, trusts and bonds? How many shares in oil, chemical engineering and other mammoth industries, including the space corporations? Is it true that by the end of the present century it will control at least one third of the total wealth of Europe and America?
Avro Manhattan's research into the origins and progressive accumulation of the Vatican's investments discloses not only how this vast fortune of material possessions has been built up over the centuries, but also the underlying reasons why it became the policy of successive popes, as well as of other Church organisations, to pursue the treasures of this world, in spite of Christ's command to His followers to "seek first the Kingdom of God".
Avro Manhattan is a world-renowned authority on Roman Catholicism in politics. A resident of London, he was born of Italian, Swiss, Brazilian, Dutch and American extraction. He studied philosophy, social science and religion.
During the Second World War he operated a radio station called "Radio Freedom", broadcasting to occupied Europe. He also wrote political commentaries for the BBC, and co-operated with H. G. Wells in drafting and distributing a New Bill of Human Rights intended as a basis for a new world community. Besides being a close friend of H. G.Wells, Manhattan was also in close association with George Bernard Shaw.
Avro Manhattan, a member of the Society of Authors, the P.E.N. Club and the Royal Society of Literature, is also a Life Member of the British Interplanetary Society. He is a keen astronomer and a student of social insects. He has never belonged to any political party.
Besides lecturing and writing short stories, essays, articles, novels and plays, he has written one of the world's best-sellers. The Vatican in World Politics, twice Book of the Month and now in its 47th edition.
His recent book, Religious Terror in Ireland, is the most up-to-date, most startling and most dramatic book dealing with Ireland ever published by anyone, anywhere.
