Off they drove with Wheeler, Mrs. Dextrose-Chesapeake's chauffeur, in Mrs. Dextrose-Chesapeakes's long black car, determined to succeed where New York's finest had failed; i.e., in rescuing Nervous, "the beautiful cat in the world," as Toad fiercely proclaimed. Also, as Malcolm amended, one of the rarest. A genuine male tortoise-shell, " raised by the Persevers from a kitten and sold to Mrs. Dextrose-Chesapeake for a fabulous sum.

So here is a fine chance for Toad to show off his superior knowledge of city life while master-minding the search for Nervous. It's all serious, hair-raising business mixed with some very funny goings-on.
