Jacques-Henri Lartigue Les Femmes Aux Cigarettes is a droll and delectable selection of Jacques-Henri Lartigue's photographs of "those daring darlings" the cabaret stars—comediennes and chanteuses who dominated the nightlife and demimonde of Paris in the late 1920s. Among some eighty comely beauties, each a provocative par excellence and each photogråphed au cigarette, are the Dolly Sisters and Josephine Baker. Fifty years after the photographs were taken, the ladies have continued to tickle Lartigue's funny bone, and he spent the better part of a year assembling this collection. His delight in the lunacy of it all comes through with an engagingly light-hearted tone. Included with the photographs is an introduction by the great photographer himself. Les Femmes Aux Cigarettes will surely enchant all who fancy Lartigue's photographic bravura and his inimitable sense of fun.

Jacques- Henri Lartigue has been photographing the people and sights around him since 1901, the year he was given his first camera. Even at the age of seven, his instinct for photography was uncanny, and today, seventy-nine years later, his zest for photography is as keen as ever. In 1963, during a visit to New York. Lartigue, who was by profession a painter, brought his photographic work to the attention of the Director of Photography at the Museum of Modern Art. That same year the Museum presented a major exhibition of his work, the first of many that Lartigue's photographs were to inspire. His images have also provided the basis for a number of books, among them Boyhood Photos of J. H. Lartigue, the highly acclaimed Diary of a Century, Les Femmes, and Jacques-Henri Lartigue, a monograph. Today Lartigue still makes Paris his home, and at the age of eighty-six he continues to reign as one of the world's most beloved photographers.
