ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Mary Calhoun was born in Keokuk, Iowa, and grew up in a large red brick house on a Mississippi bluff, very much like the one she describes in KATIE JOHN.

After college, the author worked as a newspaper reporter, where she met her husband, who is also a newspaper reporter. They now live in Mount Vernon, Washington, with their two sons, Michael and Gregory.

Mrs. Calhoun has written many stories for children's magazines. Among her books for children are MAKING THE MISSISSIPPI SHOUT, RIVER-MINDED BOY, and HOUN' DOG.
