Introduction to the Psychology of Music
The psychology of sound and music forms a connecting link between musicology, physics, and physiology on the one hand, and psychology and aesthetics on the other. Because of its intermediate position, the psychology of music is difficult to place within certain limits in respect to the other sciences. At the same time, musicians, musicologists, students, conservatory pupils, and musical amateurs must have a thorough understanding of the most important aspects and issues of this subject.
In this book, G. Revesz makes available an authoritative and useful study designed to acquaint English-speaking readers with a relatively new science and, at the same time, to provide an outline of his own exhaustive research is this field and that of acoustics.
The book is presented in three parts: the physical and physiological bases of the sensation of tone, the salient questions of the psychology of sound, and the various elements of the psychology of music. The author also includes a chapter on the racial beginnings of music, and, to round off this important work, a study of the relationship between aesthetics and the psychology of music.

G. Revesz is director of the department of psychology of music at the University of Amsterdam. In addition to this book, he is the author of Psychology and Art of the Blind.
