PROFESSOR CLEANTH PENN RANSOM,
Mathematics Department, finds himself officially required to produce "a product bf science which will advance the liberal arts" and win a prize for the University. As always, Ransom comes through—with the most hilarious doings this side of the ninth dimension.
In company with his long-suffering colleague, Professor Archibald Mac-Tate, he starts out rather simply by rigging up a calculating machine to write poetry. It performs astonishingly well until, becoming insulted at criticism of its work, it commits electronic suicide in a fit of artistic temperament.
Undaunted, Ransom and MacTate push on, fumble after fumble, through a series of extraordinary events that eventually land them in ancient Rome, where they discover themselves in the embarrassing predicament of being their own ancestors.
Scientifictionados who have long laughed at the screwloose misadventures of these two brilliant bunglers in the pages of the Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction will find their favorites involved in Bigger and Better Dimensions in
