Hypnotherapy and Hypnoanalysis serve the needs of many professionals who have sought training in clinical hypnosis. Based on clinical theory and research, it is a comprehensive review of scientific hypnosis, presenting a detailed account of a wide variety of hypnotic procedures. Emphasizing the wording of suggestions and providing the rationale for and illustrations of each, the authors have included in this book what they have found to be most useful from scores of workshops on clinical hypnosis they have taught to professionals over many years.

The reader is guided from the basics of hypnosis as an altered state of consciousness through the behavioral and experiential aspects of hypnosis, the most widely used induction and deepening techniques, patient selection and treatment planning, professional practice and ethics, techniques of hypnotherapy, the theory and practice of hypnoanalysis, clinical applications of both hypnotherapy and hypnoanalysis, and, finally, a fascinating and illuminating case history of hypnoanalysis.

Addressing itself to clinical practitioners in medicine, psychology, and psychiatric social work — particularly those who already have some experience as hypnotherapists — the book can also be read profitably by beginners in the field of hypnosis and is an excellent graduate-level text.

Hypnotherapy and Hypnoanalysis demonstrate vividly that hypnosis, far from being "a mysterious art," is a serious science that should be practiced as such.
