Margit Varro studied at the Franz Liszt Music Academy in Budapest. She started her professional career as a concert pianist; later she taught at the same academy and lectured extensively in western Europe. She published a standard work on piano pedagogy in German which was translated into several languages. Several of her articles have appeared in the Musical Quarterly, The Etude. Since 1938 she has resided in the United States, lecturing and teaching in the east and middle west. At the present time she is on the faculty of Roosevelt College School of Music and the Institute of Design of the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago.
